Sometimes you just have to memorize.  Just keep drilling on it using the testing tools.  It may also help to work on it a little bit at a time so you don't overwhelm your brain.

Sometimes, I have to repeat the word or sentence 10 -20 times before it sticks in my memory.

I have a difficult time with that also.  But like Robert and Aurora said, repetition is the key on this one.

I have read comments from Steven and other more experienced learners that at some point, things just "sound" right or wrong. In a much more elementary level I see that. For example, I have been working on por and para for long enough now that the correct word just "seems" right sometimes. I think this is one of the benefits of the live person to person speaking that I have been doing. I get instant feedback, positive or negative, when I use the right or wrong term. Sooner or later it begins to sink in.

Larry, mi dos centavos. I had a hard time retaining a lot of what I learned on Level 1. I got to the end and while I felt that I had learned a lot, I also felt that I forgot a lot. I actually went back and did the whole level a second time which helped a lot. And it was different because I had learned a lot so I spent less time on some of the simple stuff and retained some of the stuff I missed. I compared it to going back and doing 2nd grade math when you were in the 4th grade, it's simple but you probably could still get something out of just the practice.

The biggest thing I learned after doing RS for a few months is the repetition. When I was going through the level again, each day I would pick a random module and do only the Know It test. It would force me to remember the old stuff and as I got along further, the grammar got to be easier. I wouldn't do perfectly on every test but the repetition was the key. I remember I did the body parts test about 10 times and I FINALLY remember how to say knee now.

And now that I'm doing level 2, I still go back and do the test from older modules. I realized that it's just repetition, kind of like the way we learned our times tables, over and over. And as Dan says, parts of it start to come together to be natural. But I"m still trying to figure out por and para.

Hope this helps.
