i have learned in passed lessons that estoy means i am. in lesson 4.3 extra vocabulary they say Yo estoy en la mercado. is that not like saying I i am en la mercado. please explain

YO SOY= I am YO ESTOY=I am at...or I am in....

Try to think of it like the 'understood you' concept in English. You could tell someone "Go away" or "You go away" and you're saying the same thing. It's the same in Spanish. When you say just 'estoy', the 'yo' is understood.
