I noticed that Amy sometimes replies with the word "Ya" instead of "Si" when responding to a question. Is this common usage in Spanish speaking countries? Thanks. Terry

In South America I heard--and used--"ya" all the time. It has so many meanings! You can see a few of them at WordReference.com __http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=ya__ It can also be used as simple filler in a conversation. For example, if someone is listening to you, they may use it to show that they're still listening. In this sense it functions like, "Uh huh" or "OK." "Ya ... ya ... ya, esta bien." "Ya, listo." Please note that it DOES sound different from the English "yeah"! The "ah" sound is sharp and cuts off quickly. Has anyone else had a different experience with "ya"?
