I speak with native speakers. I watch my favorite spanish television program. I listen to spanish music. I practice my vocabulary every day and use cards(flash) too.
(I couldn't find the spanish for "flash cards" so I just used "cards")

An extra comment....I think this conversation is helping me a great deal as I am a visiual and hands on learner. Not only am I having to look up and figure out what I want to say, but I have to type it and read it then read the other comments. I try to figure out what they are saying before I look at the english translation. Great practice.

I agree, sjlkh, that grammar critiques would be useful, but they're not easy to do. For starters, I might offer the following correction of Kelly M's posting. Kelly, I think your first sentence should say: La persona de mayor edad en mi familia es mi tío abuelo, Buddy. However, I'm not sure about the end of your second sentence, where you say "pero el dice a las mejores historias." Why do you use "a las" rather than just "las"? Also, although "decir" does mean "to tell," I think when you're speaking about telling stories, the more frequently used verb is "contar."

Nunca he sido capaz de mantener una conversación normal en algun idioma salvo inglés. Quería cambiar esa situación. Decidí aprender español porque había estudiado francés y latín, y por lo tanto creía que aprender español sería bastante fácil para mí. ¡Estaba bien [o muy] equivocada!
I have never been able to carry on a normal conversation in any language except English. I wanted to change that situation. I decided to learn Spanish because I had studied French and Latin, and therefore I thought that learning Spanish would be rather easy for me. I was very mistaken!
I liked one of the earlier questions, and I think it might be helpful to get more responses to it. The question was "what extra things do you do to help you learn Spanish?"

Gracias nohablo por la correcciones. Todo me sabe es la palabra gran significaba "great". Ahora me intiendo la combinacion para hacer "great uncle" in espanol. La ultima frase con el adicional "a" fue un error. Estoy tratando de no buscar la translacion por la oraciones, pero solomente la palabras.
Thank you nohablo for the corrections. All I know is the word "gran" means "great". Now I understand the cominacion for making "great uncle" in spanish. The last part with the additional "a" was an error. I'm trying to not looke up the translation for sentence, but only for words.
Of course. looking up words tends to mess up the sentences, lol. But if I look up sentences, then I don't learn how to construct them myself:)

Hola sjlkh. Since you suggested that we offer corrections, I hope you won't mind if I do so. In the first sentence, I think you mean "conversación." I probably would have said "en español" rather than "de español," but perhaps both are OK. "En español" sounds better to me, but.... In the second sentence, I think you should move "casi" so that it's BEFORE "inmersión." Right now it sounds as if you're saying it's almost Spanish. :-)
In the next paragraph, I think you should use the present tense ("leo") rather than the present perfect. It sounds as if you're saying "I also have read," which is not what you mean. And whether you use "he leido" or "leo," you don't need to say "yo," since the verb makes it clear. More often than not, Spanish speakers don't use subject pronouns except to avoid confusion (e.g., in the third person) or for emphasis.

Suggestions: I think you should use "gran" versus "grander" and if your "bird" is a turkey it is "pavo". Lastly, remember the articles have to match gender. "algunos amigos" and "la comida".

Baboon es una palabra que no existe en el español, al menos no que yo sepa (Baboon does not exist in spanish, at least , that im aware of).The only baboons i know are some kind of monkey!
Hermosillo is the capital city for a mexican northen state named Sonora, which share a borders with Baja California, Arizona and New Mexico, as well as other mexican states (such as Sinaloa and Chihuahua).

Cristian: ¡Tú vive en Mexico y no tienes jugo de naranja en su refrigerador! Me encanta los vendedores en la calle se vende jugo de naranja fresco.
Respuesta: Cuando era más joven jugué muchos deportes, como beisbol, voleibol, baloncesto, herraduras, esqui (agua y nieve), ciclismo y más que yo no sé las palabras. Ahora, juego naipes y a veces los otros deportes con mi familia y primos cuando tenemos una fiesta or reunión. También yo ando mi bicicleta a trabajar.
Response: When I was younger I played a lot of sports like baseball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, water and snow skiing, bike riding. The others that I do not know how to write in spanish are ping-pong (or maybe it is called table tennis) badminton, and shooting pool. Now, I play cards and sometimes the other sports with my family and cousins when we have a party or reunion. Also, I ride my bike to work.

Ahhh, me gustan los cielos celestes también. ¿Te gustan los programas comidas? Para mí, cuando comienda afuera, prefiero comida étnica, como de indio, que no conozco preparar en mi cocina. Una hamburguesa yo puedo cocinar. Pero prefiero hamburguesa vegetariana.

Sí, pienso que es importante que se debe disfrutar su profesión y trabajo. Sin embargo, desafortunadamente, ya no disfruto mi trabajo por todas las reglas y normas que existen ahora, y tengo muchas ganas de jubilar cuanto antes. ;-)

Yo tengo una pregunta. ¿Cómo eran sus fin de semana? Is this correct when addressing a group of people?
The grammar really gets me. I presume because we are in a forum, Lotus is asking all of us: How was your weekend?
Singularly, would it be correct?
¿Cómo era su fin de semana?
Asking someone how their weekend was, or how their trip was. I presume we use the verb "ser".

If you want to ask someone "How was you weekend?" or "How are your weekends?" in spanish you can use any of the following(talking about only one weekend):
"¿Como estuvo tu fin de semana?"(casual)
"¿Como estuvo su fin de semana?"(formal)
"¿Como te fue en el fin de semana?"(casual)
"¿Como fue su fin de semana?" (formal)
"¿Como le fue en su fin de semana?"(formal)
When talking about weekends in plural the question above will change some words for example the first one, "Como estuvo tu fin de semana?" will change to "Como estuvieron tus fines de semana?"...the 3rd one will change from "Como te fue en el fin de semana?" to "Como te en los fines de semana?"...
And if you want to ask "What do you do on your weekends" or "How do you spend your weekends" or "How are your weekends like?" you can use the following:
¿Como son tus fines de semana?
¿Que haces los fines de semana?
¿Como pasas los fines de semana?
¿Que hace durante sus fines de semana?
etc, etc
