Las manzanas son deliciosas / Las manzanas estan podridas the apples will stay delicious but I expect them to become more rotten? Estoy desconcertado/ confuso?

Ser + adjective expresses a characteristic and estar + adjective expresses a condition. It seems to me therefore that even a delicious apple must be described as a condition since not all apples are delicious. I have a great book entitled "1001 Pitfalls in Spanish" by Barron's. It examines these type of confusing issues quite well. I hope this helps,
