Meaning of an Arabic phrase

I have a book of Arabic stories for beginners and in it there is a reoccuring phrase in which I can mostly understand the single words but not their meaning when put together.
The phrase is this: Fee yom mn al-ayam...
Can anyone help me?

I think it means "time is expensive"

The phrase essentially means "Once upon a time..."
