Benötigen vs Brauchen

I just checked these two words with a dictionary, but I get to the same meaning. Are they interchangeable or should one of them be used in a specific situation?

Hello RexV,

Benötigen and brauchen can be used interchangeably. Benötigen is a little bit more formal, whereas brauchen is used more day-to-day.
