Have looked up the meaning of unheimlich and it says weird, creepy or sinister. Why is it used in theis sentence. “Oh ja, ich ​reise unheimlich gerne.”

You're right, when unheimlich is used as an adjective, you can use the translations above, such as “Das Haus ist unheimlich.”- “The house is creepy.” 

In the sentence “Oh ja, ich ​reise unheimlich gerne.”, unheimlich is used as an intensifying particle in in colloquial speech and can mean “very”, “really", “incredibly” or “terribly”

 

Other examples are:

“Das Haus ist unglaublich groß!!” - “The house is incredibly big!”

  • “Die Frau ist unglaublich nett.” - “The woman is really nice."
