Lets Get Started!

Salut toute le monde!  I am a person learning French but haven't posted in a very long time.  I liked the addition of the flashcards feature as it is a good review for the lesson and a quick review if you want to make sure you remember stuff.  One of the things I like about this program is the Write It! feature because it forces you to remember accents and cement that in your memory.  I'm not such a big fan of the more words to know because they are out of a sentence context.  I can remember the long sentences but mess up on the list of short words.  Anyway, I love Rocket French and recently had a French tenant who could understand me and I her, even though we had to speak very slowly to each other!  I supplement with french short stories and decided to get a French TV station--I don't understand much because of the speed of conversation.  Once I figure out a phrase, they are way beyond me, but it is a start!   Au revoir!!

I am learning Japanese because there is a LOT of dementia in my family.   At 68 years old, I am trying to avoid getting the "family curse".   The experts say learning a language keeps your brain sharp.  So I wanted a language as different from English as possible. I'm interested in Japanese culture.  I have a co-worker who lived in Japan for 20 years, so I knew I'd have a speaking partner.  Japanese was the obvious choice.   I am so glad I found Rocket Languages.  It makes learning so much fun, and I'm learning a lot.

Salut!

I am new to Rocket Languages, having used another language study method previously for Spanish and German.  So far I like that Rocket Languages offers the ability to refresh and reinforce what is learned in the lesson with use of the Hear It, Say it and Write it, Know it and the flash cards. It's also helpful to be able to download the lesson PDF as well as the audio.

Hoping I will be successful at learning French through Rocket Languages.

Hi Everyone,

Last time I tried to learn a language was 50 years ago at school. French was the standard then and although I enjoyed it I forgot most of it due to lack of use.
Now, close to retiring I have decided to plan a trip through South America in the next 2 years and, with the help of Colombian/Peruvian friends, am learning Spanish so as to fully appreciate the culture and people.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve: Bienvenido a RS y este foro.

My bucket list has similar contents. Although in my case I am thinking of an "epic" (to use a word my climbing and riding buddies tend to overuse) trip from Panama through Colombia, walking across the equator, exploring the Inca culture and other places of interest in Peru, then down through Chile to the End of the World. Perhaps we will see each other "en el camino!""

By the way, don't be shy about participating in the Spanish forum. It is a great place to ask questions, get great answers, and make new friends.

Dan

I've been in Rocket Japanese for a few months now and I love it!  I've even started dreaming in Japanese.  I'm doing it mostly to keep my 68-year-old brain sharp, and because I love the language.  It's seems so logical.

Claudia,
I am also learning French to keep my old brain as young as possible. I really seems to be working but I have yet to have a dream in French.  That could be interesting!  Stay motivated and have fun.

Meages,

It takes a while to dream in your language.  When I was on the Navajo Indian reservation, they said when the language starts to really sink in, you start dreaming in it.  It took months, but it did happen.  Same with Japanese.  So it will happen for you, too, I'm sure.

MichaelK99,

You came to the right place with Rocket Japanese!  I've been using it since January and I am learning quickly, but also with lots of practice.  Luckily, this program has lots of practice and it's fun.  Good luck!

Probably the best language tool I've come across. Actually love it more than Rosetta Stone and Duolingo
