Backpacking or camping in Japan

jim-rufio1

I'll be backpacking through the main island with a buddy of mine next spring/summer. Kind of a chance to feel vulnerable without technology or native language and do a little bit of soul searching. I'm an experienced outdoorsman, so no worries there. I found a bunch of camping spots. $7 a night is way cheaper than renting a hotel or hostel every day that's for sure. But, I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that has done any camping in Japan. Are the hornets as big as they say they are? Haha!

Well, I haven't done any camping in Japan, but I truthfully never saw any extra large hornets... just normal sized ones. Anyways, you might find these sites helpful: List of Japanese Camp Sites: http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/attractions/rest/outdoor/camping.html Forum for people who have gone camping in Japan: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2319381 Hope those helped a bit. Good luck on your trip!
