I wanted to learn how to speak Italian because I was tired of listening to my wife and her family and not knowing exactly what they were saying. Of course they would always tell me what they had said but I always wanted to experience it first hand. I first ordered rosetta stone Italian but I wasn't pleased with their teaching method and returned immediately. I went on You tube to find reviews on a good italian program and came across a review for rocket Italian. The person who gave the review took into account a few courses but praised the rocket program over all of the ones mentioned. I then decided to order on the spot. I have not had the program for a week and have impressed my wife on how well I can read the conversation transcripts. I decided to read (in Italiano) to my father-in-law, who grew up in Italy, and he was extremely impressed with my pronounciation. THIS IS ONLY AFTER ONE WEEK!!! I try to practice every day and have my wife speak to me in italian to keep me sharp. I want to thank Rocket Languages for this opportunity to learn and reach my goal that I have set for myself. Thanks, I will keep you posted on my journey through the course.
I am finally learning Spanish. Love the way it is organized. This is an enjoyable experience.
I'm very happy with this Spanish program. I have tried several others and been disappointed with the level of instruction -- some focus primarily on vocabulary, others on writing, for example. This one gives you a sense of the language and, importantly, how it is used in real life. And it is fun. I don't think I am easily manipulated, but I have to say that the point system, "streak" reporting and badges do keep me going.
I like most of the teaching methods, and my favorite is being able to participate in conversations. Exceptions: I don't think the five-question quizzes are particularly effective; there are too few questions and they are extremely easy. I use the flashcards once per lesson (to get credit!), but I think Anki is a much better flashcard service and I use that much more.
With that preamble, here are some suggestions:
* Although the pronunciation checker is pretty amazing, it is still somewhat inaccurate. I get words wrong and it often still scores me 100%, even with the checking level at "Hard". More frustrating is that sometimes it just won't accept my (perfect!) pronunciation no matter what I do.
By far my top language learning tool! I've tried most and find the combination of listening, writing and speaking so key. The voice recognition is also of a very higher standard. Highly recommended.
While I am just starting, I like the way you hear the entire conversation, then play a role in speaking the part. The feedback is instantaneous, where you get to hear your dialogue and correct any mistakes. It forces me to concentrate so that I put the emphasis on the correct vowel. After the conversation part, you get flash cards to test your knowledge and then write the words in Italian. It's a great way to begin learning the Italian language.
I like the format and emphasis on spoken language in the Rocket languages online courses. However, I was disappointed in Rocket Spanish because it is totally geared towards younger travellers going to South America, whereas I am an older person spending a few weeks in Spain. There was very little clear advice as to differences in pronunciation, grammar or vocabulary for the language as spoken in Spain - just occasional references. There were no systematic examples of polite conversation with an older person such as a hostess or landlady. I spent a lot of time trying to work out the polite forms of the questions and answers for the ones included in the lessons but had no way of checking whether my attempts were correct. There was no list of days of the week or months of the year which I got from a dictionary but it would have been good to have them included in more of the conversations - they're pretty basic.
I have been searching for a long time for a Russian course that is appropriate for beginners and Rocket Russian offers everything I hoped for and even more: it is not only well structured and very easy to use but it offers a more practical approach to language learning than most language school and this helps you to reach conversational fluency in a relatively short period of time. It is also fun to use since you are collecting points while learning and you are competing with other students. This feature makes it addictive and it is a good source of motivation.
This is a wonderful course. I have only been learning for a week , but I can already introduce myself, hold a short conversation, and order a meal. The Rocket Record feature is especialy good, and I love that it rates my pronunciation.
I have tried dozen of language learning courses including: Rosetta Stone, Duo Lingual, Udemy, etc. However, I think Rocket Languages is one of the best because it is well-structured with balanced among reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
This is a great site, very easy to use, and very helpful! I would recommend this sight to anyone . I am improving my Russian! Rocket Russian came free through my college linguistic's course so I could not be happier for the price!
