Rocket Spanish — CO , United States
Summary: It is most important to start SPEAKING a language as soon as possible to get comfortable with it. I think that Rocket does a decent job getting you ready with some key phrases, pronunciation, and review, but it overloads the learner with too much new vocabulary per lesson.
Format: I really like the audio format in a nice progressive pace and it's less 'cluttered' than the popular pod101 program. The review material is very well rounded, using audio, writing practice, spanish - english and english - spanish practice, plus flashcards (english - spanish). Overall audio quality: Try the trial to hear them speak. Decide for yourself. In my opinion, Mauricio has a good accent and Carmen speaks slowly. Amy is a dork and I get a little tired of hearing her voice. Her Spanish makes me cringe. The "repeat after me" can be very rushed and I have to pause so that I get a chance to actually repeat a phrase. Workload: The dialogues can be quite long (some almost 45 minutes!) and the practice has WAY too much vocabulary to absorb for one lesson. I'm currently doing a lesson in Level 2 that has 117 words. I don't even want to start since I know it's going to take me a very long time to get through the practice sessions, so I'm here to procrastinate by writing a review instead. I feel that if there were around 50 phrases and words, this is enough to absorb and master in about 3 days per lesson. It's not that I want to go fast, I just don't have 2+ hours a day to do the practices AND memorize/absorb what I'm learning. My solution to this problem is that I select what I think might be useful in my everyday conversation and skip the rest (Do I really need to be quizzed on "Bueno, bueno. Ay! mama!" and other silly things from the dialogue?). It's the only negative emotion I feel when I get into a lesson. I wish there was less vocabulary per lesson. App vs. Desktop: The app is missing the module certifications (it's like a final exam), but the desktop has issues with typing special characters and not recognizing my microphone. This is something I've emailed CS about and received no response. Price: it was okay after finding a coupon code online. *cough*cough* Customer service: My only "interaction" was when I sent an email asking a question about the interface and never received and answer. Recommend: I have mentioned it to my friends, but with the warnings I've outlined. Buy again: Yes, I have purchased 2 other languages.

I signed up over 5 years ago and every time I have had any issues or just a simple question they have always been there. The lessons are spot on and learning Spanish, is Rocket fast!
Keep up the great customer service, Johnny B
Rocket Italian — Missouri , United States
Unlike Rosetta stone this teaches you things you can actually use and provides actual instruction. There is a good mixture of interactive audio lessons, activities, flash cards, review and more. It's nice to hear a native speaker and a non native (American) one too. I enjoy that this include some cultural pointers too. I can avoid ordering the wrong type of coffee for the wrong time of day! The mobile app seems a bit unresponsive. This has led me to doing most things on my Mac and listening to the audio portion on my iPhone on the way to work. I took a couple of years of Italian in college and this is a good way to learn all I forgot. It's helpful to have an explanation of some of the literal phases. Overall, great product for the money.

I've been learning French on my own for 5 years, and although my reading/writing skills are an upper intermediate level, my comprehension/oral skills are not sufficient for getting by in France. Rocket French is changing that after only 1 module! By far, the best comprehension skills program I've seen.
The price isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for, and with Rocket French, you get a lot! And I like the humor - it's good to break out into a laugh during the lesson. Definitely recommend!

I am an adult learner and have a real-life need to have a good working use of Spanish for travel and work in Central and South America. I have been studying Spanish for about 6 years so I have a fairly good grasp of the language. I have used all the widely-known, self-directed courses, multiple online resources, have a small library of Spanish books, even hired a tutor at the cost of $100/hour from Colombia. Bottom line in all of this, is that learning a new language is work- a lot of work. What you get out of your learning experience is directly related to how much effort you're willing to put in. I rarely endorse anything unless it stands out from the crowd or impresses me. I like several things about this program. First the price- it's a good value and a one-time purchase for however much you want to dive in. It doesn't continue to gouge you month after month. You buy it- it's yours for life. And if you're a new learner or even intermediate level, you will return to this as a resource over and over. Because (very important) you will NOT absorb every single bit of information the first time around. To think you will have 100% recall after one-time through is extremely unrealistic. If you want to "walk the walk", you have to "talk the talk". Meaning- you have to teach your mouth how to SAY these new sounds in whatever language it is. You can NOT master a language if you DO NOT SPEAK IT. This program lets you hear just how you sound- sometimes it's shocking how bad I pronounce things! So I am aware how I sound to a native speaker!! (Embarrassing...) This application lets you perfect your speech while learning muscle-memory (those muscles and movements we use to make many of these complex sounds). You can crunch away on verb conjugation- which is important also... BUT it's not going to help you put it all together. Learning grammar alone is not going to make you fluent. Again yes, it's important, you can't build a house if you don't know how to construct a frame. My take-away on this ap is this "blends" all the stuff you need to know in a much less intimidating way and "learn-able" manner so that before you know it, you're going to learn the grammar rules. You will learn verb conjugation but in a way that it will sound correct to you and become natural for you to say- not from trying to recall verb conjugation charts in your head. I read once that before some bit of info becomes part of your long-term memory (something you can recall months, years later) it typically takes 50 times (yes, fifty) reading, seeing, hearing, writing, speaking, etc., to be lodged in your memory for good. A large part of this program is repetition- but repetition is KEY. This program gives you the means to do your work, without too much difficulty to assimilate a new language and own it. Language learning builds upon itself. The more you learn, the easier it is to learn MORE. And the more you learn, the more satisfaction you will have and will WANT to learn more. Use other resources as well to augment your path to learning, but this program can be an excellent foundation for you IF you use it correctly and dedicate the time and effort.

Rocket Spanish has been so helpful. The dialogues are good for listening in the car, and the exercises make sure you are thinking, understanding, and pronouncing correctly. This is better than any other language tool I've used outside of the classroom.
Rocket French — Mauritius
I started learning French more than a year ago. It is quite an interesting language, though somewhat more difficult than some other languages for me. I find Rocket French easy to go with, structured, and with plenty of opportunity to practice. I see that after listening and practicing different sentences or phrases from the audio lessons, they stay with me. I am able to use them without much effort while practicing French in other contexts. The hosts are nice too, especially Paul and Marie-Claire.
One observation: when I practice the speaking, a few times I need to repeat the given word/phrase and it shows "Sorry, I didn't catch that. Please try again". Sometimes, of course, it's because my pronunciation is not be correct, but many times I give the same pronunciation consecutively- the first time is not right, the second one it is.
Rocket Korean — Kiev , Ukraine
The web site is complicated and not very user friendly. I've spent 5 min trying to figure out how do I start the lessons and where to begin the studying. It's stupid to spend so much effort on a web site to have people leave confused. Too complicated to begin with.
Moderators note: There is a take a tour video button at the top right of every page within the members area!

I've recently gained the opportunity to go to Germany for a job! All great news, with the small bump that i need to learn German within the next 3 months. I just started this program and i am loving it so far! It's easy to follow the lessons and focus on what the speakers are teaching and the site itself is simple and easy to navigate through to learn your intended language.

Great program for french learners of all levels. The various learning techniques are very helpful and keep things interesting. The environment keeps me motivated to keep learning and continue moving forward. I highly recommend!
