Family in Spanish

This free audio lesson is on the family in Spanish. Family ties are especially strong in Latin families and if you ever have the chance to meet friend’s families, then chances are that you will get to meet aunts, uncles, cousins and all the other extended family members. These strong family connections are one of the elements that make Latin culture so warm and welcoming.

When speaking Spanish to native speakers, you will also find that they are very interested in learning about your family too, so make sure you are ready to tell them about your different clan members using the following Spanish family vocabulary.

Cousin (male & female)

Did you notice that you change the word to an “o” ending in most cases if you are talking about a male and an “a” if you are talking about a female? Differentiating between male and female can seem confusing, but really it isn’t. If you are talking about a group of people though where there is a mixture of males and females, then you use the male version, so to say “my cousins” you say “mis primos”.
