Does anyone know a good French movie? I would love to watch a movie in French (maybe with subtitles to start with) to see how much I can understand . Any suggestions?

hi, one of my all-time fave french films is Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (with Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil and Emmanuelle Béart). Au Revoir Les Enfants is also very very good. :D

Salut Paul, if you haven't watched these yet I'd suggest the following: Cyrano de Bergerac (Gerard Depardieu version) Diner de Cons (Thierry Hermitte and Jacques Villeret)[/i]

If you mean "French-Movies" from France. The one "France-French" movie I enjoyed was "Amelie" starring Audrey Tautou. It is a very quirky and funny movie. However, you would need to be a very strong reader of English. Some of the dialogue goes so quickly, you barely have time to read the sub-titles. Let alone, connect the spoke French to the written English. However, overall it is the one French movie that I know of, that I enjoyed. Since I live in Canada, if I do watch a 'French Movie' or TV show it is mostly of the "French-Canadian" or French-Canadian TV has a lot of american movies, dubbed into French. Here is a database of Quebec Movies: http://www.cinematheque.qc.ca/ (If you click on 'Welcome' in the top-left corner the site will change to English).

hello Rocket Frenchers, Salut! :) I watched recently the film "La Vie En Rose" and it was wonderful. Albeit a touch depressing, yet a good film regarding a truly famous French Icon; ( The voice of the Sparrow, Edith Piaf). I highly regard it for more French exposure as I'm simply beginning.

Salut One really funny French film I have watched recently is les visiteur. It stars Jean Reno. According to my husband (who is French) a little of the humour is lost in translation but you can still pick up plenty of vocab. [/quote]
