I just started the course and I'm already stumped by the following pronunciation principle:
Most consonants are silent at the end of a word (only when each word is spoken individually)
What does the statement in ( ) mean?
Silent consonants

Hi there,
Most of the consonants are silent at the end of the word, what I think they forgot to mention in the () statement is that when the word is said by itself the consonant will be silent but if it is said in a phrase the liaison may apply so it is not silent anymore. For example if we say "nous sommes alllés à la mer" you will say "Nous sommes_allés à la mer" with a liaison between "sommes" and "allés" and the "s" at the end of the word "sommes" is not silent anymore.
I hope it helps,
Regards,
Nathalie,
