Why is second verb not in infinitive form ?

Elles disent qu’elles habitent à Paris.  – Why is it habitent instead of habiter ?  The second verb should be infinitive form right ?  Thanks to anyone who responds.

Hi chicagojohn,

Both verbs are conjugated as they should be as individual verbs, elles disent = they say and elles habitent= they live.

So the sentance is elles disent qu'elles habitent à Paris = they say that they live in Paris.

Habiter is the infinitive and means to live it would be used with an auxillary verb in a sentance such as elles vont habiter à Paris = they are going to live in Paris. Elles vont being the conjugated form of the verb aller = to go, elles vont = they are going.

Hope this helps,

Best Regards

Steve
