La Macchina means car, but can't it also mean "machine".
Therefore, couldn't the sentence, "La macchina e vecchio." be translated as the machine is old?

Ciao Concetta,
it's correct:
"macchina" is the word for "car" as well as "machine".
If you want to say:
"the car is old" , you will need to say"
"la macchina e' vecchia" ("a" at the end as "macchina" is feminine).
I hope this helps :)
ciao
