I'm not sure what ichiban atsukatta hi wa kinou desu means. Does it mean The hottest day was yesterday. or Yesterday was the hottest day.

I have responded to your first question here: http://members.rocketlanguages.com/your-community/japanese-grammar/what-does-this-mean-why-do-you-say-atsukatta-was-hot-but-finish-the-sentence-with-kinou-desu-which-is-present-form In english, both sentences are correct and mean the same thing, and the translation that you did for "ichiban atsukatta hi wa kinou desu" is good :).

Anne さん、 こんにちは。 Re: The meaning of "一番 暑かった 日は 昨日です。" Simply translated, this sentence means: The hottest day was yesterday. Or yesterday was the hottest day. Similarly you can change the order of that sentence to say: 昨日が 一番 暑かった 日です。 Yesterday was the hottest day. Hope this helped! Lisa
