My friends' Japanese friend told me that, because I'm a boy, I should say 'boku' rather than 'watashi'. This confused me because on the audio lessons Kenny says watashi... And he's a guy... I read somewhere on the Internet that boku is only said by young boys? Can someone please clear this up for me!? Thanks!
Boku or Watashi?

Watashi can be used both by males and females. Boku and ore are use strictly by males.
The difference between them:
Watashi - formal
Boku - casual/ informal
Ore - very informal, sometimes even rude.
So if you're close friends with the person you are talking to, you can use "boku" without any problem.

You may hear female singers use "boku".( Not too sure why this is, but maybe it's to fit the syllabic structure of the song : 2 vs. 3 or even 1 if it's shortened to bok' ). But yeah, what コッド said.
