Hello,
I’ve been studying Japanese on and off for 2 in a half years, and I’m currently on Section 3 in Rocket Japanese. But I realized I never had a strong grasp on the grammar even when I started — I often skipped the extra lesson parts, so now I can only make very simple beginner sentences on my own.
I really want to improve and eventually speak more like a native, but I get confused about how Japanese grammar actually works, especially with verbs, nouns, adjectives, and forms like the present plain negative and present plain. When I look back at the past lessons, I start to feel overwhelmed because I realize, I didn’t fully understand them.

I would really appreciate any advice or guidance anyone can give me on how to better understand the grammar and strengthen my foundation.
Thank you so much!
