皆さん、こんにちは! (Minnna san, Konnichiwa!) So I was wondering how exactly would you say you prefer you'd rather not do something in Japanese. Like for example, if I were to go into a Japanese class and they asked "Why are you using voice". How would I say the "I'd rather not type" of "I'm using voice because I'd rather not type." Also just in case, is this the way I phrase the entire sentence minus the section I ask about: 私は話せますので___のです。 (Watashi wa Hanasemasu node ____ no desu.) I know I probably could say "I don't like to type" or タイピング好きじゃない in that blank, but is there another way to (taipingu suki janai) phrase it that basically would be the negative version of the tai congujation of a verb? 一もどうもありがとう。 それではまたね、 デレック

Derek-san, こんにちは! The entire sentence: "I'm using voice because I'd rather not type." can be said in Japanese as the following... タイプしたくないので話しています。 (Taipu shitaku nai node hanashite imasu.) In your example - 私は話せますので___のです。 (Watashi wa hanasemasu node...) - bit would translate as _"Because I CAN speak."_ Remember that the ending *'-emasu'* or the casual *'-eru'* expresses a potential action. *Taberu > Taberemasu* _(I eat > I CAN eat)_, *Nomu > Nomemasu* _(I drink > I CAN drink)_ To express an on-going action *_(-ing)_* - such as "I'm speaking." - we need to add the *-iru* bit after the -te form verb. So, *Tabete iru* _(I am eating)_, *Nonde iru* _(I am drinking)_. Now, back to the original sentence - "I'm using voice because I'd rather not type." - or "I'm speaking because I'd rather not type." The simplest way to say this in Japanese would be (as mentioned above): タイプしたくないので話しています。 (Taipu shitaku nai node hanashite imasu.) And, if someone asks you, "Why are you speaking?" - you can simply answer saying: タイプしたくないので... (Taipu shitaku nai node...) -Hope that helps! Sayaka :P

in short then: したくない = Don't want to do どうもありがとう!I'm happy I choose the correct particle now if only I had put 話しています in the correct spot xD. それでまたね、 デレック
