Verbs with ki

I have noticed that a lot of the verbs I have learned use ki. ikimasu: to go kimasu: to come kikimasu: I listen okimasu: to wake up kakimasu: I write Is that just a coincidence?

Hi there, The verbs you have listed belong to a group of verbs that have "ki" just before masu. When conjugating verbs (changing forms), these verbs act in the same way (except for kimasu which is irregular). There are other verbs that have the same sounds just before masu. It could be "mi""bi""ri"chi", etc. If they share the same sounds in that position, they conjugate in the same way. The grammar newsletter series covers this topic as well.
