The style of Rocket Languages

Why do you use so many exclamation marks in the text? They're supposed to be used sparingly otherwise they lose effect. Overuse also makes the text appear childish and immature. Some of the Language and Culture lessons have exclamation marks after nearly every sentence. I counted 53 in one lesson.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices this. Every time I read an explanation, I think of Romper Room. You were right in the first place. It is definitely their “style” - like, Weeeeeeee!!!

This post made me smile. My daughter writes for a living and she would agree with you both.

I can imagine a 14 year old high school girl with excessive sugar intake writing the text. We're just missing OMG, emojis and - heaven forbid - multiple exclamations!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off script, but on topic, Memrise is very much like that.  It appears to assume that their core market is juvenile.  I'm surprised to say that I hadn't noticed it so much on Rocket.  Perhaps Memrise has been cunningly effective at numbing me to the effects of that style…!

Hi Chris

Was wondering when you would  pop up. Hope all is well.  All good here.

My son and his partner are in Scotland at the moment and have been having a great time. he has sent us lots of lovely photographs. We have not been away for awhile and are hoping to do some some travelling soon. I did go to Mexico with my daughter for 2 weeks and had a great time practising my Spanish.

To come back to the topic, never even noticed them. I just enjoy the learning and still think it is a great teaching aid.

Hi Maxie

Good to hear from you. All's good, thanks. What language are you currently learning?

I switched to French 9 months ago.  It's obviously more challenging than Italian or Spanish in terms of pronunciation, but I really like it.  My previous spells with French were in the books/CDs era, and as ever, Rocket is by far the best resource I've ever used.  It makes tackling French much easier than the old school tools, especially given voice recognition for pronunciation.

Hi Chris

Concentrating mostly on German. Not using Rocket that much other than for speaking. As I have said before, find the grammar frustrating. So am using other resources for that.  Still doing Spanish and also Dutch.  Just am passionate about learning languages, so forms an intergral part of my day. Am more relaxed now, as got off the daily points and now just enjoy what I can do. Got the Rocket team to let me start from scratch and am happier for it.

Take care and enjoy your French
