Ciao! Mi chiamo bridget. I wanted to ask what the italian article for australia would be when saying "I'm from Australia." Would it be 'la' as in "vengo dalla Australia" or something different? How do you know which article to use as france uses 'dalla' and england "dall' ." Grazie!

The correct article for Australia is "dall' " because Australia as well as England starts with a vowel. In that case the last vowel is dropped from the article before it.

Ciao Bridget, if you have a sneak peak into lesson 2.8 you will find a little table "the +of and + at/to" there is also an explanation "a+the". I actually printed it out for myself to refer to until I get use to it. Hope that helps you. Fran

Ciao a tutti, in Italian the expression "I'm from " can be translated into two different ways: Io vengo da Sydney Io vengo dall' Australia (l'Australia) Please note that when "da" is followed by a name of a country (Australia in this case) , you will have to add the article in front of the name. Other examples: -Io vengo da Roma -Io vengo dall'Italia (=l'Italia) -Io vengo da Berlino -Io vengo dalla Germania Or also using the expression "Io sono di". -sono di Roma If you wants to say the country rather than the city where you are from, you will need to use your nationality. Therefore the sentence will be : -sono italiano/a (I'm Italian) -sono tedesco/a (I'm German) -sono australiano/a (I'm Australian) Please remember to change the last vowel of the adjective accordingly with the gender. I hope this helps Ciao.

Ciao Michael, when you want to express that you are coming from -a specifi city you will need to use "da" as -io vengo da Roma -io vengo da Londra -io vengo da Berlino -from a specific country/region, you will need to use "da+definitive article" as -io vengo dall' Australia (as l'Australia) -io vengo dal Canada (as il Canada) -io vengo dalla Germania (as la Germania) -io vengo dalla Sicilia -io vengo dal Veneto -io vengo dalla Bavaria I hope this helps. Ciao
