In lesson 2.5 (booking a hotel room) the sentence "Ha una camera" is translated as "Do you have a room"...why is Ha used rather than Hai? Grazie

hai una camera =informale(tu) ha una camera=formale(Lei) ho,hai,ha ciao

PERFETTO! HAI (friendly form, if you know the person you are talking to) HA (polite form, if you don't know the person you are talking to. I suspect that you will be using this form if you are visiting Italy!) :D
