In the final line of dialogue in lesson 14.3, Roberto says: "Eh si, pensa che a cinque anni..." Why does he say "pensa" and not "penso"?

penso

ciao Jennifer,
the translation of Robert's sentence is "you have think that .." so you will need to conjugate the verb using the pronoun "tu" : "(tu) pensa che ...".
If you say "io penso che" , you will say "I think that" which will change the meaning of the sentence.
I hope this helps.

Thank you, this does help. But I think it makes much more sense to the "story" of the dialogue if Roberto says "Um yes, I think that when I was 5 years old, I had already tried to cook by myself."

Ciao Jennifer,
when translating from a language to another you will notice that some sentences are expressed in a different way.
By the way I love the picture on your profile :)
