I am having difficulty with the word  vorrei. Is it proper to use this word when ordering something at a restaurant?  ie..Vorrei un tasse caffe

Ciao Chris

I don't know whether this will help, but vorrei is a gentler way of asking (I would like) versus voglio (I want) https://conversationalitalian.wordpress.com/tag/italian-verb-vorrei/#:~:text=The%20io%20conditional%20form%20of,with%20the%20same%20in%20return.

Buona fortuna

Ciao Chris,

Yes, the word "vorrei" is commonly used when ordering something at a restaurant in Italian. It is the first-person singular form of the verb "volere" (to want) in the conditional tense, and it translates to "I would like" in English.

So, when you want to order something at a restaurant, it is perfectly appropriate to use "vorrei" followed by the item you would like to order. For example, "Vorrei un caffè" means "I would like a coffee."

Here are a few more examples:

  • ➜ "Vorrei una pizza margherita, per favore." (I would like a margherita pizza, please.)
  • ➜ "Vorrei il menù del giorno." (I would like the daily menu.)
  • ➜ "Vorrei una bottiglia d'acqua naturale." (I would like a bottle of still water.)

Using "vorrei" shows politeness and is a common way to place an order in a restaurant or make a request. Remember to include "per favore" (please) at the end of your sentence to be even more polite.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
