In the sentance below, why isn't sono sei per subject pronoun rules?

Le ragazze sono buone.

The girls are good.

Hi there!

It's great to see you're paying close attention to the details of subject-verb agreement!

In the sentence "Le ragazze sono buone," "sono" is indeed the correct form. Here's why:

  •    - "Le ragazze" translates to "the girls," indicating a plural subject. In Italian, the verb "essere" (to be) conforms to the number and person of the subject.
  •    - "Sono" is used here as the third person plural form of "essere," corresponding to "they are" in English.
  •

This might cause some confusion because "sono" is also used for "I am" (first person singular), but context usually clears up which meaning is intended.

If the sentence were about a single girl, it would be "La ragazza è buona" (The girl is good), using "è" for third person singular.

Happy learning!

Best, Enxhi
