please explain ] how do they get excuse me out of [como] they have already shown how to say excuse [disculpe] [permiso] very confusing. lesson 2.4

Hola amigo, Amy is asking politely: " what"? when she uses ¿como? Rather than saying ¿Que? which means " what"? which might be taken as somewhat abrupt or rude, she asks ¿como? with the intention and usage of politely asking " what did you say"? Which might have been better translated as "pardon"? in English. Como can mean several things. But excuse me is one way of translating this. And there are other ways to say excuse me as well. At times there are some errors or translations not fully explained but don't let that throw you it will become clearer as you study. Also don't get hung up with literal translations.
