Hello,

We live in Puerto Rico. The Spanish here is quite difficult to understand. In a few months, we are traveling to Colombia. My main source of confusion is how to pronounce the letter V. Here, in PR, it is equal to a b. As in Vente, Bente, I think that it may be different in Colombia.
Amy just used the V sound for her age, veintenueva. (29) So, how do I proceed correctly?

Muchos Gracias,

In my admittedly limited understanding, both the B and V in Spanish are pronounced the same, somewhere between the two, harder than a V but softer than a B. I am unaware that the letters are pronounced differently in different countries, but again my experience is limited.

I talk, or have talked with, people from Spain, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, and Cuba, and have not noticed any of them pronouncing the letters differently.

I have also noticed that Mauricio, Amy, and maybe other narrators here pronounce the letters separately as we do in English. I suspect they may be doing so to not confuse us English speakers. I think we might be better served, however, by getting used to hearing native pronunciation.
