Becoming Fluent in German

I just purchased Rocket German and am so excited about the interactive audio sessions. I have learned more just in the first two lessons than any other method that I have tried. I am wondering, however, if it is possible with Rocket German to become fluent in German or do I need to take other steps afterwards to become fluent. I also wanted to find out the best way to actually communicate with native German speakers to get help with writing and communicating in German. Thanks again for a great program.

Hi John - I think the answer to your question depends on your definition of fluent. I think after the Rocket German courses you will be able to speak what I call "tourist German" i.e. you will be able to get around in travel situations, restaurants, exchange pleasantries and so forth. To become really fluent, i.e. read, write, and converse at the equivalent of a high school graduate level, I believe you will need more supplemental studies and some immersion in the German language whether it is time abroad or through German language clubs. You can also do additional self study through reading, listening to German broadcasts, etc. When you have more of the basics, check out Deutsche Welle.
