Teddy bears

Module 1 4.8 Flashcards card 25

On flashcard 25, the accusative case of Teddybear is given as “einen Teddybär,” yet my German grammar sources give the accusative of Teddybear as “einen Teddybären,” corresponding to the usual accusative of “Bär,” i.e. “Bären.”

Is “Teddybär” in the accusative a colloquialism or an acceptable variant?

Hallo Tony-8gwb,

Thanks for pointing this out! Yes,  “Das Mädchen hätte gerne einen Teddybären.” is grammatically correct. In colloquial speech this ending is sometimes dropped.

Viele Grüße,

Julia
