Hi Paul, Re Lesson 14.6 Auxiliary and Modal Verbs Another question: "Ich wolllte mir die Haare schneiden lassen". (I wanted to get my hair cut) Does it mean I wanted to be allowed to get my hair cut? or that I wanted to get it cut by someone else? Couldn't I just say "Ich wollte mir die Haare schneiden"???? (which to my ear would also say, "I wanted to cut my hair/ or have my hair cut") Alles gute Shannon

Hallo Shannon, "Lassen" is "to let" so "Ich wolllte mir die Haare schneiden lassen" means you are letting someone else cut your hair. "Ich wollte mir die Haare schneiden" means you are going to cut your hair yourself. Liebe Grüße Paul

Thank you, Paul "Ich wollte mir die Haare schneiden" would be a dangerous proposition indeed! Alles gute Shannon

Yes indeed. I wouldn't recommend it :)
