What time is it? - Wie spät ist es?

As much as I could learn till now, I know that when making a question we put first the auxiliary verb and then the pronoun, like: "Wie spät ist es?" Can anybody explain me why in the question: "Kõnnen Sie mir bitte sagen wie spät es ist?" the pronoun precedes the verb? Why in this case the question does not follow the rule? Danke Shõn!

Or may be I should have better asked why in one case is "Wie spät ist es?" and on the other case is "... wie spät es ist?"
