Brueder vs Gebrueder

Maxie

Maxie

Hallo

Was reading a piece about the Brothers Grimm in German

And sometimes they used Brueder and other times Gebrueder.

Whatis the difference, please

Thanks
Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Great question! Brüder is simply the plural form of der Bruder while Gebrüder implies all brothers of a family, however the last term is outdated and never used in casual speech nowadays. Sometimes, Gebrüder is also used in company names, e.g. when a company is managed by two or more brothers.

Viele Grüße,

Julia

Danke Julia

Gut zu wissen. Was intrigues by that and now a little bit fits into my puzzle of the German language

Have a good day

Maxie
