Hi Julia

Another question for you.

Hallo, ich würde gerne meinen Führerschein umschreiben lassen.

Hello, I would like to exchange my driver's license.Lit.

Would one use Um schreiben lassen to exchange a gift, item of clothing id one was not happy with the item.

Danke Maxie

Hallo Maxie!

Danke für deine Frage! The two verbs are quite similar in meaning but can't be used interchangeably, unfortunately. umschreiben is used to mean transferring information from your e.g. foreign license to a German one so basically you exchange one license for another. When exchanging a piece of clothing, you can use umtauschen, for example,

“Ich möchte bitte diese Hose umtauschen. Sie passt mir nicht.” - “I would like to exchange these pants, please. They don't fit me.”

Viele Grüße und eine schöne Woche!

Julia

HI Julia

Once again thank you. Another piece of the puzzle added. Will put it in my notebook. O might add learning a language is a pretty big puzzel

Apparently Mandrin is a big one. If you can recognize 3000 characters, you are at a fairly basic level. At least that is not the case with German. Not sure how many words I know now, but there is always room for one more

Kein Problem!

I'm sure you already know more words than you realise!

Happy learning,

Julia
