"lost"

In lesson 8.3 the term for lost is “extra verfahren” which tramslates to something like procedure.  I thought the word for lsot was verloren.  Is this some sort of slang?

It is a bit confusing, verfahren does mean to proceed, but there is a reflexive version - sich verfahhren - and this does mean to loose one's way.

Extra is also a bit odd, it can mean deliberately / on purpose. According to the Leo dictionary this use is colloquial .

I hope this helps.

Thank you, that is a very helpful explanation.

Hi all!

I have nothing much to add to Simon's explanation :) Just an extra note that “sich verfahren” (to get lost / lose one's way) is always used in the context of driving.

Viele Grüße,

Thanks Julia, it makes sence that verfahren refers to driving.
