The speech recognition software is terrible. If it wants to give you a score from 0 to 100, I'm fine with that but to have to keep on repeating myself and yelling only to see "I didn't catch that try again" is more than frustrating. So I'm just skipping trying to talk into the mic for now. And my Google Chrome is updated. My mic is a very good one.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi George, we are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the voice recognition. We have set you an email to follow up about this issue and hope we can resolve it for you. All the best!

I was trying to learn Arabic and I know only a little so I listen to them explain the numbers and I know my numbers 1-10 so I was listen and the numbers were mixed up like they said wahoud is 2 but it is actually 1 and it did the same mixed up thing the whole time so don’t waste your time on this app thinking there going to teach cause your just going to get mixed up with different words

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Jacob - I am not sure where you are seeing that. I had a look through and all of our number lessons look correct. Can you please contact customer support and let us know exactly where you saw this?

Listening to the audio lessons is very boring. You hear someone saying something in Arabic, and then they tell you what it is in english with a little bit of filler and sometimes a lame joke. There's too much english speaking in between the arabic, and after listening to it I don't recall anything from it. I then started doing some of the other activities and they're all very basic. This is much less advanced than Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone doesn't choose the most useful phrases to teach you when you start off, but at least it reinforces what you are learning in an easy way to pick up the language without a lot of filler talk in the language you already speak (english in my case). It's hard to motivate myself to listen to more of these Rocket Arabic lessons because they are so boring.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Robert - We have added in a ton more standalone words and phrases that can be used with voice recognition. As well as that we have revamped the Language & Culture lessons.

I definitely need more experience because speaking, understand and to write in Arabic is not easy.

Response from Rocket Languages

It's great to hear that you are enthusiastic to master the trickier aspects of the Arabic language and have chosen Rocket Languages to support you on this journey. I like the writing videos, but I find the spoken sentences too fast. I have also been using Linguaphone and Duolingo and Duolingo's option of having a slowed down speaking version is very helpful. Also I would have preferred a MSA version as I find the Egyption dialect difficult to adjust to.

I don't think I would recommend it over the alternatives.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thanks for your feedback, Roger. To slow down the audio, click on the settings cog in the top right corner and choose a slower speed. I hope that helps!

The Rocket Languages is an amazing tool. I signed up for the Arabic course and although I slip behind in the course work (due only to my own laziness) the regular weekly e-mails do make a difference by reminding me of my desire to learn this language. Awesome product.

The content is good, but it is difficult to go through the lesson because Erica's voice is so annoying. It is also a bit frustrating when they give you so much time to repeat the words/phrases slowly, but not enough time to repeat the words/phrases quickly. I really do want to do all the lessons, but Erica is auditory hell

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Evelyn, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you are not enjoying the voice of our Rocket Arabic host. All your feedback has been passed on to the Arabic team to review. All the best!

I have enjoyed learning Arabic the Rocket way but now for about the last 10 or 12 lessons they have been the same lesson. "Greeting". I would like to learn something new I would to be able to speak more quickly. Maybe some letter exercised would be beneficial.

I have no plans to visit Egypt, but I want to read Naguib Mafouz's books without having to look up all the dialog, word by word, so I was interested in at least an introduction to Egyptian. The Rocket Arabic course offers far more than an introduction - there's a mass of the spoken language, if not much grammar, which seems pretty easy after some MSA. I skipped ahead from Module 1 to Module 4 (which has a lesson with Naguib Mafouz in the title) and decided to finally try out the Chrome version to see how it graded my pronunciation. The app graded my MSA at 100% (set on Hard), but routinely flunked my Egyptian (around 30%) - it wanted quhlumu ruhsuhsun, not alum whatever for pencil. So I'm going back to Firefox and not worrying about the pronunciation, beyond trying to mimic the native speaker as closely as possible. Once I finish Module 4 I'll go back to 2 and proceed in order from there (happily skipping the lessons on numbers, which are absolutely essential when you're in a country but take an inordinate amount of time if you really just want a reading knowledge of a language).

As far as recommending Rocket Arabic to a friend, it really depends on what they want it for.
