Rocket Languages review criteria
A very easy program to follow. Immerses you in the language slowly, but the listener is able to pick up quickly. Pronunciation by both instructors allows listener to pick up accent easily. Recording feature gives listeners the chance to hear their voices speaking the language and helps one practice getting the accents (but it doesn't happen in one day). Quizzes and writing exercises gives the student an opportunity to write in the language as to be able to read periodicals and newspaper which will increase vocabulary.
As a serious learner, the conversation part is great, but if there will be more explanation on grammar such as verbs' conjugation, that will be fantastic. I read lots other reviews which mentioned that it's great if learners prepare other grammar books when using Rocket Language, and I totally agree with those opinions. With nouns in extra vocabulary section, it's better to add "le" or "la" to show words' "gender". Sometimes I have to rely on other material to check the "gender". I need more explanation or patterns to show verbs' conjugation. That will be great if there will be a chart displayed with examples.
Rocket Languages has presented itself as useful so far. I would recommend the interactive course for someone who's above the beginner level to avoid struggles and discouragements at first. The speakers really push you forward into speaking, though. However, it gets tricky when you have to use an intermediary language to learn the target one. The possibility of downloading everything in the course has provided a deeper immersion in French once you can carry it around whenever you go. Plus, the audio quality is crystal clear providing a better understanding of how the pronunciation works separately and in context.
I am really enjoying learning French with Rocket French. With Rocket French online it is easy to learn and practice French a little every day. The points, tracking and email keep me engaged. Merci and à bientot!
I've been studying Rocket French for a few days now and... it's great! I ended up buying the full 3 course set. The subject matter is really easy to follow and the 4 forms of testing are really helpful! I'd love to update my review later when I'm farther in the course.
The only con I have is instead of starting with the Alphabet/Pronunciation, the French course starts with a few simple phrases for four lessons. They are very helpful sentences but it threw me off when I first started.
However, it isn't that big of a deal. I'd say overall Rocket French is a great language system and worth the money! Salut!
I really appreciate the reminder and motivational emails - I lose motivation quite regularly and this gets me back on track.
I also like that I can jump ahead, pick and choose the lessons so I don't have to waste time going through something that I already know.
Doing the tests is the cement - it's so important to hear and say, not just read. However I get frustrated when my iPad doesn't recognise a one syllable word I try to pronounce in French! :-) How can "leur" be so difficult!?!? ;-)
Really GREAT product!
I am using Rocket French on an Apple Macbook Pro with the Google Chrome Browser.
I am really enjoying the method and I am learning at a fast pace. However, there are a few minor issues that would improve the experience :
Sometimes when I playback the recording of my speech it is distorted.
When the sentence spoken by Rocket is very fast, it sometimes does not recognise any part of my recorded speech if I repeat it at a slower pace.
The Flash Cards ratings allow you to put what you think is the rating - Very subjective and therefore of no real value.
I have used Rocket French for several years. The dialogue is relevant and the reinforcement lessons help to make connections that aid memorization. However, the voice recognition is spotty and does not always work, and it takes a long time for it to register. When I first started using Rocket French there was a feature that actually matched your voice to the native French speaker... very cool, but that is no longer available. The feedback given for pronunciation is a bit arbitrary since you don't really know if it's the microphone or your pronunciation that is the problem. I have tried several different microphones, but the result is still inconsistent. For the second level, I wish they had kept the same speakers as in level one. Since I need to review the lessons from time-to-time, it can become a bit redundant, but I am going to try the travelogue sessions to mix it up. Overall, this is a good product for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about learning a new language.
For someone who spend a lot of time at the office and has little time for classroom type learning this format is excellent. The presentation is clear and makes easy listening. Progression from one stage to the next is slow and with lots of repetition. This enable rapid learning.
I've just started with Rocket French, so it's a bit early to say but so far the site is easy to use and I enjoy having the very specific structure with timings for each lesson. I'm dyslexic, so have some difficulty processing what I've heard which effects my recall, so the learning is very slow. I need to go over the previous lesson, often several times and also write it down. The option of using the role play after the main lesson is a good teaching method as you have to recall the information in a different way.
