The Rocket German course has been really enjoyable. It is a nice blend of conversational learning and basic vocabulary. The only improvement I see is to have more in the beginning to describe the different verb tenses with the different pronouns to start the foundation of learning, but you catch on to it with a lot of repetition. The one feature I really like is the voice recognition accuracy that allows you to perfect the pronunciation. A+ for that feature!

I enjoy Rocket German, as it has been the most useful medium for learning a new language short of just dropping into Germany to learn. I am an incurable do-it-yourself-er and Rocket German has been nothing short of encouraging to me. I use it every evening, along with Rocket Russian and I even manage to use it on my phone if I have a few dead moments during the workday to review what I did the night before. Whenever opportunity has presented itself, I've "test-driven" what I've learned in practical application and have been pleased with the results. I have a favorite German restaurant and use it there at times, although the only German speaker there is the owner, so it's only infrequently that I can use it there, but German tourists come to my part of the world occasionally and I do what I can to see if I can make a meaningful attempt at a conversation. It is my goal to be reasonably fluent in 5-years so that when I decide to do a 2-year work stint in Europe at that time, I'll be prepared.

I'm pleased with Rocket German. The program has worked well on my iMac, provided I use the Chrome browser. Lessons are well sorgfanized, and if you keep at it day and are using the grammar as well as interactive lessons your fluency and reading will improve. I'm doubtful that writing will make similar progress as the structure is not a good, at leas so far, for teaching students to write German well, though students do get plenty of practice transcribing what they hear. I would not hesitate to recommend it to somebody wishing to learn to read and speak better German. I find it does help to make a point to watch movies and TV programs in German.

I am happy with the course and how it is presented. Impressed with the App.
I invested nearly $450 with Pimsleur and it was not value for money.
Am French born in Paris of British parents so bilingual at an early age, my wife is Italian so I also speak it. After I finish this German course, I may consider investing in your Spanish course
Best regards

While I am enjoying, and learning from Rocket language I have two major gripes. 1) Many of the conversations are between to native English speakers who do not pronounce like native Germans (Which is the goal of language learning) and the audio "lesson" can get rather tedious and forced sounding. 2) On many of the conversations, when you "play as..." if the person laughs, moans, chuckles, or makes other noncommittal noises, you still must sound exactly like they do to pass that section, even though I can intentionally mispronounce words in hard mode and it will pass me to the next section otherwise.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Brian; there is one non-native speaker in the Interactive Audio course (Level 1), in-line with our philosophy of providing the most effective online language learning courses possible, we will be replacing that audio with a native speaker within the next couple of months.

Having spent hours researching various language applications I chose Rocket German. It's an amazing, comprehensive course at an excellent price. Other courses cost as much for just 12 months!
I know a little German, picked up from travelling, but wanted to learn the language properly. I started only last week and have whisked through several lessons already and am astonished at how much I've learned - and retained. I'm not far off 70 so didn't expect to be able to learn so quickly but just by hearing and repeating words and phrases, they seem to stick so I wake up with odd words and phrases in my head. Of course, some words/phrases need more rehearsing than others but you can't expect to learn without effort!
The only issue I have, and I think this is because of how my brain is wired, is that when faced with sentences containing 'an', 'im' 'am' I really need to know when and why each is used; it's these little words that catch me out. I need an explanation of their usage to help me work it out because it's so hard to simply remember by phrase and I'm so eager to be able to apply the structure to new sentences. I'm certain that this is a grammar lesson that will follow later but I feel I need this now.
Listening to different German speakers is incredibly helpful. I realize that I've picked up bad habits and this is helping me to adjust my pronunciation quite quickly.
Overall, brilliant course. Can't recommend highly enough.

Been doing the Rocket German for about 3 months. So far, I've enjoyed it for the most part and am looking forward to getting into the second Level. My one complaint/suggestion is that I find the written lessons to be poorly set up. The focus looks like it is supposed to be on grammar in many lessons, yet they are taught with 20+ new vocabulary words in many of them. So instead of focusing on the new grammar rules, you get lost trying to figure out what all of the new vocabulary is. Would suggest using only words already known when first introducing a grammar lesson so that the focus is kept on the grammar and not diverted to the new words. I've come out of several of the written lessons with no more knowledge of the grammar rules then when I went in because 90% of the examples were with new vocabulary. Audio lessons are great though, and overall I still think there are many positives. Looking forward to the updated level one German whenever it is due out.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Brian - It's a balancing act to know when new vocabulary should be introduced, as everyone is different in how they learn. Our approach has been to deliver common words and important terminology in our lessons, so that over time the essential vocabulary you need is built up.

rocket language is very good when it comes to the teaching but i think things like this should be free because not everyone has the money to pay for it and the people that need it most is poorer people that don't have much money but everyone needs an education it doesn't matter about their status in life
