Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Bubill - Did you see the Writing lessons? There are videos in each of those showing you how to draw different characters, with the correct stroke order!
This company has really impressed me. I bought the Japanese language course over 9 years ago, but never invested myself in it. After all this time I thought there was no way I'd still have access to the course, but I did.
This year I finally started studying it, and couldn't be happier with the rate at which I'm learning. I'm also really pleased to be able to check and practice my enunciation with the recording feature. 10/10 would recommend.
I had actually done the Rocket Spanish and I was a bit disappointed with Rocket Japanese. I do not feel that there are enough lessons to get an understanding of the material. I also do not feel that verbs were covered enough.
I love Rocket Japanese. I am able to hear myself speak Japanese. Second, I like the flash cards because it helps reinforce the new words that I've learned. I also like that I have indefinite use of the courses that I have bought.
Probably the most useful website/App you'll ever find when it comes to learning a new language. Duolingo and Babbel may be useful for simple languages such as Spanish or French but may not be suitable or fit for very complicated languages such as Mandarin/Japanese/Hindi. Rocket Language takes every measure to ensure you learn any given language in the easiest way and also in such a way which makes it easier for you to remember. Explanation is very clear in every lesson preventing any confusion but most of all topics are very specialised with multiple different types of quizzes to test you, audio, lesson podcast, recorder. They even explain in every lesson common mistakes people make and how to avoid it.
The best thing about this in my opinion is every module/topic is split into writing lesson, culture lesson, audio and speaking lesson. This is the best way for me to learn because it helps me specialise in writing, speaking and even reading. If I had done it all together had I struggle and forget things quicker.
Its a very useful tool to help improve language skills with excellent breakdown of sentences and explanations on why things are said. It helps if you have a basic knowledge of the language beforehand.
I have really enjoyed learning Japanese with Rocket Languages. It is a real challenge but the course gave me the confidence to travel solo to Japan earlier this year. I was really pleased to have a basic knowledge as there were plenty of occasions when no English was spoken. Rocket Languages also gave me an understanding of Japanese culture which is very different. It is an amazing country and I plan to continue my studies to improve my Japanese ready for a return visit. I like the broad approach of the course, using spoken and written Japanese. I struggled initially with the hiragana keyboard but Customer Service was able to point out where I was going wrong and the more I use it the easier it gets. Including elements of grammar is very useful and makes it easier to understand the structure of a language that is quite different from English. It is a very well-structured course.
I am really enjoying my Rocket Japanese experience so far. You all have really created a very well rounded system for learning a new language. I love the diversity of information and mediums of teaching.
Tanoshi and omoshiroi! I enjoy doing the lessons since I can hear the sound and tone of the language and see the written forms. Learning is easy when I can repeat things as much as I want to get the right pronunciation and tone. The culture lessons are extremely helpful to know the context of the words and phrases that I am learning.
I've tried out many apps to learn Japanese, and no matter how many I tried, I always come back to Rocket Languages!
Unlike many other apps, once you get Rocket Japanese your membership is lifelong, no need to update your subscription. That's a really worthwhile investment. Ah, and of course their learning method and organization of studies is great (I can save pdf of ALL lessons to repeat even offline).
