It would be nice to separate the Hangul from the romanized version in order to better understand the writing system; however, my experience so far is satisfactory. It would also be a lot better to have a built in Hangul keyboard for the writing portion, I had to use another website for this purpose. Even with these issues, I quite enjoy Rocket Languages and will continue to use it for my Korean studies.
Response from Rocket Languages
I will add these suggestions to the product development wishlist! Thanks.
I use this to listen to when running. It is disappointing that there does not seem to be a way to automatically move from one interactive audio lesson to the next without having to do it manually. Some of your competitors eg korean101, do permit this. A minor issue but one of convenience.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We are planning on adding a playlist option to our app later this year, which will be far more convenient for listening to on the go. I hope that helps!
It's pretty good. Decent price for a lot of material. Could use more interactive parts, such as games however. That said, you do get an email daily with your word of the day, the forums seem pretty active and helpful and there are a lot of lessons.
I love how organized it is. Rocket Languages also does a fantastic job at keeping track of progress and achievements, which is nice. The way the language is taught has been fairly simple so far, which makes it easy to remember and to understand.
I am 2 weeks into learning Korean, and still in the first module of 7, but am immensely enjoying it so far. The audio lesson is followed by 4 different "tests" that can be redone with a focus on phrases or words you did not know, as well as has those phrases and words to parse through on your own time following the lesson.
Rocket Languages essentially gives you all the tools to work at this in the way that best suits you, including the ability to turn off the Romanisation of Korean words if you would prefer to learn their writing style instead. While I find the course is very good at letting you set your own pace and approach, I do think the focus on Korean writing is a bit weak. You can access all the writing guides out of order to prioritise this, but this course focuses on speaking first, writing second. I am sure with time I will be able to do both, and this is based off of personal preference, but bear in mind that being able to read Korean phonetically before speaking it in this course may include using outside resources or taking lessons out of order.
It was quite helpful for a beginner like me! It was quite annoying when I said something and it marked it as incorrect but if I said the same thing after a few tries then I would end up with a hundred percent. But it really did help me with understanding and sentence structure. I would recommend this site to anyone who would like to learn a brand new language such as Korean.
Good blend of useful phrases, vocabulary, cultural lessons, and written lessons. Best variety of learning tools (audio, student recorded audio vs example, interactive tests, reading, etc...) compared to what I've seen in Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur. No pressure 6 day trial gives you a good opportunity to preview the product. Details of what you receive a little confusing and the price is borderline high although competitive. Will be up to individual if you get your money's worth but the substance is there to take advantage.
I am a new user of Rocket Languages, and I am having a great time. For years I played around with the idea of learning the Korean language, but I had no idea how to take the first step. Rocket has given me the opportunity to study Korean at my own pace, without worrying about deadlines or expectations. I like the feel of being on a personal journey, since that was my expectation from the very beginning. Ultimately, I would like to become fluent in the language before I make my first trip to South Korea. I think that learning the language before hand would show locals respect when I communicate, and give them an idea of who I am as a foreigner in their country. I would like to make a good impression, for myself and for others.
I have not yet rated this program five stars, only because I have retained very little vocabulary in my first month. My lack of memory could be my own fault, because I don't have very much spare time on my hands to study for hours daily. However, I would like anyone reading this to know that Rocket Languages offers an amazing way to get your foot through the door. Please know that I am actively working to give more time and attention to my studies. I hope that by the end of this month, I will meet my initial goals.
Rocket Languages is the most motivating online learning program I have ever used. I have been learning Korean for almost 2 years and there are times when I skip a few days of practice simply because I lose interest. Repetition does that to you. The points and badge system encourage you to work every day and compete with the other Rocket users. It gives you the strength to go each day and have even more fun learning the language.
I've already recommended it to a few Korean language students I know. Hopefully they surrender and check it out.
I like that this app teaches you how to speak the language and breaks down the pronunciation, a lot of other apps just stick to learning the alphabet and single words. I feel I am getting somewhere in learning Korean with this app.
