Rocket Languages review criteria
After marrying my husband (who is Korean) I moved to South Korea and began the process of learning Korean. Rocket Korean is a very affordable and enjoyable way to learn Korean; it contains common phrases that are actually used in everyday conversation, and also has several methods to make sure the information sticks after you finish the lesson.
I'd definitely use Rocket Languages again if I ever need to learn another language.
While I just started, It is definitely one of the better programs I have used. I love how the program is structured to gradually let you get more and more comfortable with the language and doesn't simply leave you in the dust. Overall enjoyable.
Rocket Languages is a fun interactive way to get you to learn complex languages. I am currently in a Korean class and it helps me in many ways understand the language as well as give me formal backgrounds that delve deeper into the language than is given in my class. My speaking korean has improved dramatically and it is a great alternative to not having someone nearby who can speak the language to keep you on top of your game. Korean is a complex language so it lends to the strength of Rocket languages because asian languages are one of the most complex in the world.
It would be nice to separate the Hangul from the romanized version in order to better understand the writing system; however, my experience so far is satisfactory. It would also be a lot better to have a built in Hangul keyboard for the writing portion, I had to use another website for this purpose. Even with these issues, I quite enjoy Rocket Languages and will continue to use it for my Korean studies.
Response from Rocket Languages
I will add these suggestions to the product development wishlist! Thanks.
RocketLanguage Korean is the best that I have found so far--activities that encompass listening, audio analysis, reading, and writing! However, the interface is not completely intuitive, and some of the beginning Korean vocabulary and dialogue are too advanced for a beginner; for example, references to military service and discharge, compound sentences, etc. For the first lesson, a simpler meet-and-greet would have sufficed.
The lessons have so many different aspects to them! Starting the first module, I thought it would take forever to get the basics down. But after doing every quiz and flashcard, pronouncing for the microphone every phrase, and even doing the writing portions, I realized how much I was learning in just one lesson. It takes time, dedication, hard work, and persistence. But if you're trying to learn another language, you shouldn't be surprised. The lessons are all-encompassing, helpful, and informative. Also, even just the weekly blogs on studying or learning a language are helpful because they can tell you what to do outside of the lessons to help you learn. This site isn't here to make you memorize. It's here to help you learn.
I wish every lesson was interactive and I could learn to to pronounce big words and phrases slowly. This way I would be able to speak with a more clear pronunciation. I would feel more confident and excited about studying.
This app is just plain amazing. I teaches you step by step. I use this app to learn Korean and I've used many other apps besides this but they didn't really last. But this has me logging in and out. I really recommend this!
Since I already have a second language, I wanted to learn this language for a while but when I imagine having to go through the process of learning a new language all over again, my motivation just disappeared.
This app for some reason just made me get my motivation up and going. I can speak easy words of my second language and write a few words with it so I'm at that point where I have to take things to a whole new level for me to increase my knowledge in this language. So, I chose to learn multiple languages.
Keep it up Rocket Languages!
I would like to see information on Korean numbers, both native Korean and sino-Korean, and when it is proper to use each one. I've lived in the ROK twice and always used native Korean numbers for everything. I did not realize there was a second set of numbers.
It's the best online language class I've taken so far! It was fun and really easy to learn Korean if you put the time in. Or any characterized language I'm more than satisfied with the outcome. I really found this helpful and easy. 10/10 highly recommended it!
