Rocket Languages review criteria
I have been looking for a language program to learn Egyptian Arabic that does not teach using pictures/flash card type learning. Finally, I found it! The price is fantastic for a "lifetime membership". I am only on the first lesson and I can already converse with my fluent boyfriend and his father, who is from Egypt. I love Rocket Language!
I have been looking for a good Arabic learning program for a while. I have tried a few - none really worked. Then I found Rocket - and I must say it has been an overall good experience so far (I'm only three weeks into the program). The learning tools - flashcards, "hear it, say it", etc. are absolutely great and for that only, the whole program is worth it.
There are only two (minor) downsides to it, that perhaps Rocket could improve on:
1. While there's a very good structure to the overall program, I do feel like I could use some guidance as to how to progress (i.e. audio, then grammar, then writing, etc.). There is no such thing right now - or maybe I haven't found it, and some of the audio course refers to the grammar lesson that I haven't looked at yet.
2. A list of other useful resources could be interesting too. Pointing to websites or YouTube channels or what-not could be interesting to listen to more Arabic, too.
Overall a great experience so far, that I would recommend to anyone interested in learning a language.
It's seems a great way to learn a language through a very interactive experience. I am looking to learn basic Arabic and it seems to be the right program for me. The repetition part of the dialogues really helps. Recommended.
This is an excellent program, in my opinion better than the comparable Pimsleur product, because it makes an attempt to explain the grammar. The dialogues are well spoken and practical. The main shortcoming is that there is no follow-up program. We need to have at least a Rocket Arabic 2 and preferably a 3 as well. Otherwise, there is a bit of a feeling of being abandoned at the start of the journey.
Rocket Languages so far is the best you can find I've tried other options before and I am just hooked to Rocket its easy to understand and with lots of material. I've purchased the french version and I couldn't be happier thats why I'd decided to get the Arabic.
This is the best course you will find. This is a very honest review I'd never review anything but I am just so happy I found Rocket it's worth every penny. I wish they come out with more levels for the Arabic course.
Love the software, I'm already speaking sentences and words that I wasn't able to learn with other softwares and books, the only thing that sucks is they only have the beginning course :( I hope they consider making an intermediate arabic course in the future, I'm sure it would be appreciated!
I had tried Rosetta Stone for learning Arabic..I found it very difficult to grasp. With Rocket I began immediately to understand what was being taught and putting it into practice immediately. Native Arab speaking friends of mine understood what I was saying and even praised me on how well I am doing.
The speech recognition software is terrible. If it wants to give you a score from 0 to 100, I'm fine with that but to have to keep on repeating myself and yelling only to see "I didn't catch that try again" is more than frustrating. So I'm just skipping trying to talk into the mic for now. And my Google Chrome is updated. My mic is a very good one.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi George, we are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the voice recognition. We have set you an email to follow up about this issue and hope we can resolve it for you. All the best!
I have previously tried Rocket German which was good and Rocket Arabic is of an equal standard. I like the way that early lessons are structured towards a tourist who just wants to "master" a few basic phrases which can then be built on. In this respect the lesson material is spot on. The only comment I would make is that for those people who do not want to learn to write Arabic, it would be more helpful if the feedback in the voice recognition related to the romanised words rather than the Arabic. However, overall it is hard to beat Rocket Arabic for the features it offers. As an experienced traveller who likes to be able to say a few words in the language of whatever country I am in, I know that there are two things that are essential in a language programme. The first is the chance to rehearse useful phrases so that they can roll off the tongue fairly easily. The second is the chance to attune your ear to native speakers saying everyday things at a normal speed. Rocket Arabic delivers on these two fronts in spades.
I have been living inthe UAE for 13 years now and haven't really had the time to officially learn arabic. I've been to Egypt a lot and it encouraged me to learn. I am so happy to find Egyptian Arabic course here and I am really progressing a lot.
I would love to learn more after this course. You could learn at your own pace. I usually do the reviews of past lesson before i head on to another lesson. An i find this more helpful for me. I also practice speaking what i learned to arabic friends and they are impressed.
Thank you for this and i wish Rocket Languages more success.
Ma'a assalama!
