I have tried several programs. They consist mostly of flash cards and no analysis. Rocket Italian does analyze the phrases technically, grammatically, and culturally. I will never be fluent until I live in Italy (my Italian parents would not teach me the language) but with Rocket Italian I will be familiar enough with the language ( I already know how it sounds.) I work on it every day without any problem. Ottimo lavoro!

I tried Babble first and found it too difficult for a complete novice. So far, I have found Rocket much easier to follow and the tips in the first few days have been very helpful. My disappointment is the short window to purchase the full course at a reasonable (Discounted) price after downloading the free lessons. I'm not sure I have the time to devote to study right now and I will probably be interested in buying an online learning class in the future. It may not be Rocket because I will know I could have purchased it for a lower price if I had been ready in the early stages. I also would like to find a course that has an Echo Auto App for the program. I mostly listen and practice in the car and I use my echo auto to play the lessons on my car speaker. If they had a app I could control it a little better with voice commands. Oh well, "If wishes were horses then beggars could ride." (anonymous)

It would be helpful for a quick reference vertical bar on the left for key word reference related to that page.
For example presently when doing flashcards and beyond it is an effort to scroll way back up the page to find the correct words.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Jason. Funnily enough this is exactly what we are rolling out within the next 2-3 weeks!

Great Spanish course! I appreciate the ability to move at my own pace. Spanish courses in high school were adversely affected by students who were not motivated to learn Spanish. As a result, it was an inefficient use of time. It also required my attendance miles from where I lived. My Spanish classes from Rocket Languages are mostly in my living room and they are conducted whenever I decide class should be in session. The software for Rocket Language Spanish is also effective on my iPhone and I found the phone version to be very user friendly.
In college, the Spanish classes moved too fast, and frankly, I never could catch up. I never had time to go back and sufficiently learn a topic as "the class" was moving at the speed that the professor determined was necessary. That speed was always faster than what I could handle. With Rocket Language Spanish, I can pause the pace of a chapter and stay on a topic which I am having difficulty with, such as a pronunciation, and then when I am satisfied I have grasped the topic as best as I can, I can then return to complete the rest of the chapter. Fantastic! You can't do that in a group class.
I also enjoy the constant (and repeatable) mini phonetic prompts that accompany all lessons.

I've been using Rocket Italian since December 2019. I purchased Levels 1, 2, & 3-Instant Lifetime Access and the Travelogue. (Yes, I am committed to learn Italian.) I am on Unit I- module 6. In addition to Rocket, I use 2 other Apps/programs along with Rocket Italian. After 3/12 months of use, I feel I can write an accurate review.
Pros
1. I love the structured lessons
2. Like having the audios of Alex and Maria (audio lessons and reviews)
3. Like having the ability to record myself and mimic pronunciation

Cons (or possible areas to improve)
1. I wish there was a way to manipulate and build sentences rather than solely memorizing. (Maybe this happens in later units, I don't know.)
2. I wish that in lessons, such as in Language and Culture, where they may be over 90 terms to learn, that the lesson be divided in smaller lessons. Memorizing close to 100 terms is overwhelming and a big challenge. Maybe limiting the terms to a more manageable number would be beneficial to the learner.
3. I wish there was a method to answer questions on a lesson directly on the lesson page itself rather than on the forum. Also, I would appreciate if someone from Rocket could answer those questions rather than relying mostly other learners.
4.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thanks for the detailed review Laura! I thought that I would comment on the cons; 1. Play it! is the best tool for this at the moment. We are looking into other tools to achieve this. 2. Rocket Italian is due for a total review later this year. At that stage the amount of phrases per lesson will be addressed. We know it's an issue and have been working at how to make it less of a slog yet maintain the comprehensiveness. 3. Great idea. I will look into this. 4. We used to have this as an extra paid feature but it was difficult to manage as it requires a lot more human resources to be able to do it.

I just purchased Rocket Spanish Travelogue, and even though I still consider myself in the high beginner stage, I find it incredibly helpful as it is very advanced, and it has given me a little 'trick' to help me study more with less frustration.

I start my Rocket study time spending 15 minutes or more working on the Travelogue series first, attacking the sentences bit by bit, listening and recording them several times, toggling the recording difficulty level until I am satisfied that I can say even ONE of the advanced sentences all the way through.

Then I go back to my regular studies in Rocket Spanish, at the level where I actually belong, and I feel like I am picking up the material much faster and with more ease. The advanced level of Travelogue is hard, but the story is fun and keeps me engaged, so I want to keep working at it. Then my regular level feels like a reward for getting through a few sentences.

This approach may not be for everyone, but I am jazzed at how much it is pushing me along, and I am so glad I purchased it.

Thank you Rocket Team for this awesome addition!

We are really enjoying learning Italian with Rocket Languages. Having your pronunciation rated is a real bonus, it's something that a real teacher might not be able to convey as accurately. It can also be quite funny finding out what an Italian would hear as opposed to what you thought you said. We also like the reading, writing and comprehension activities. Because the grammar of the language is explained you get a greater understanding of the language and feel like you're 'learning; the language and not just repeating and memorising it parrot fashion.

Well, I've just started learning Italian through the Rocket Italian website. I'd spent some time looking for an online course, and this one seemed to receive the best reviews. I was so impressed by the trial, I've decided to subscribe to the course. I've tried to learn Italian in the past but had a few false starts. What I like about the site is its design and ease of use. Careful thought has gone into how each lesson is structured, and how each module makes you feel that you're really learning. Each lesson exercises really force your brain to remember what you've learned. I've already recommended Rocket to a few friends and would advise anyone to take a look. I'm planning on completing the course a lesson per day, then buying the French course when complete.

I could not get past the incredibly annoying woman with her fingernails-on-chalkboard voice. The squeaking, the overemphatic emoting, the inane chatter and the off-putting accent have driven me away from this program in the first 5 minutes.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Kat; I am sorry to hear that you didn't gel with our Rocket German presenter. We are actually close to releasing an all new interactive audio course for Rocket German, with all new voices!

I tried Rosetta Stone, which I found hard to learn with. I tried Duolingo, which seemed easy at first, but then felt like I was just memorizing a bunch of phrases. I am now using Rocket Spanish and have finally found the right product. I appreciate how they concentrate on a limited number of words per lesson and have you really work with them to feel fairly confident before moving on to the next lesson and set of new words. I am only a few weeks into it but would recommend this program to anyone wanting to learn the basics of a new language.
