The only thing I would like to add is a video of the people talking. Seeing how their mouths move and gestures would help a lot. Besides that- amazing course.

The verbal, visual and written repetition in everyday conversation is very useful. The language recognition software is pretty good but longer phrases get dropped occasionally.
The explanation of language structure is succinct and appropriate.

So far level 1 of Rocket Italian is pretty easy. Spanish is my native language. My only concern is if the later modules will go more in depth into Italian slang (depending on region). From personal experience I find that most people who learn Spanish later in life use terminology that native speakers don't use. Or don't understand "improper" Spanish. Also out of curiosity, have you guys considered offering a rated-R version of Rocket language learning? Lol

I've taken both Busuu and Rocket Russian. I feel that I'm making more progress with the Rocket program. I'm being pushed to read it, listen to it, speak it and write it. Busuu didn't push me as hard, however it did let me interact with native speakers in Russia and the other former Soviet states, who corrected my lessons. I could have gone as far as I wanted once in contact with those speakers. However, without the grammatical structure in place, I found it very hard to try speaking or writing it. But I'd have to say that the immediate feedback on my pronunciation in Rocket is something immensely valuable and I love being pushed to write it as well. With so many ways to review and refine, it really cements the language into my 67 year old brain, which already has mastered Spanish, achieved a working knowledge of French and German, and now, the piece de resistance, Russian. Luvin' it.

Enjoyable.
Balanced speak/hear/read/write (tilted toward speak/hear).
Good interface.
Feels like a complete tool: I think I can learn to speak Spanish quite well using Rocket without other resources (except, of course, Spanish-speaking friends to talk to.)
The speaking feedback needs work: usually too loose (terrible pronunciation gets 100%) with a few phrases, especially ones with numbers, almost impossible to get 100% every time they come up.

(There is no N/A choice on the above ratings; I have no experience with customer service so I would choose N/A if I could)

Response from Rocket Languages

Thank you for your thoughtful review, Aaron! We’re thrilled to hear that you find the balance of speaking, listening, reading, and writing effective. We also appreciate your feedback about the voice recognition accuracy—please feel free to reach out to our support team at [email protected] and we'd be happy to take a closer look at the issue you mentioned. All the best with your continued language learning!

Rocket French

My product review should be understood in the context of a man in his 70s struggling to learn a new language. Before purchasing the premium version of Rocket French, I had used Duo, Babbel, and taken an introductory course at a local community college. Duo is easy enough, not demanding. It is a source of vocabulary, but one can put in many hours without confidence of using the words in speech. Babbel promised more interaction, but the speech sensitivity is seriously flawed. Otherwise the program is brisk and challenging. My college class showed that one's hearing in late retirement is unreliable, so keeping up with students less than ⅓ of my age was troubling.
Rocket French requires lots of oral practice, which the others lack. The tablet version of the program (I use a new iPad Pro with gobs of memory) has a problem similar to Babbel's, where the end of sentences are ignored. I can test this by just repeating the phrases that are missed and it translates those just fine. On my desktop iMac, the program works just fine.
Rocket French is more expensive than the other drills, and quite possibly less costly to create. I find that the method is engaging and leans more directly on the need to listen and speak. It has become my primary learning tool.

According to me it is extremely good because someone is able to learn the pronunciation of the words in French and at the same time learning to to write in friend.. It is a good learning tool really.... Absolutely awesome
