Rocket Languages review criteria
Just bought today been looking through the course and I have to say the structure and integration of the way you learn with Rocket languages is by far the best I've seen. I've gone through so many different systems and learned bits and pieces but they always seemed lacking in the way they presented the language be it Japanese or any other this system might be the best I've seen other than having an actual tutor or class.
I have just started using Rocket French again, after using it briefly before travelling overseas last year. Using it in conjunction with in person lessons to boost my learning as I want to challenge myself, and I'm finding it quite useful so far. The fact that I can use it on my computer, or on my phone while in the car on bluetooth is great, and I love that it updates my progress on both.
The program seems to have trouble recognising when I say "Vous" - But speech recognition is a great feature otherwise. There was an error with the 1.2 quiz, not logging my 5/5 result on the computer, but it did work on the iPhone app.
All in all and good product so far. Thank you.
I started learning French more than a year ago. It is quite an interesting language, though somewhat more difficult than some other languages for me. I find Rocket French easy to go with, structured, and with plenty of opportunity to practice. I see that after listening and practicing different sentences or phrases from the audio lessons, they stay with me. I am able to use them without much effort while practicing French in other contexts. The hosts are nice too, especially Paul and Marie-Claire.
One observation: when I practice the speaking, a few times I need to repeat the given word/phrase and it shows "Sorry, I didn't catch that. Please try again". Sometimes, of course, it's because my pronunciation is not be correct, but many times I give the same pronunciation consecutively- the first time is not right, the second one it is.
I like the format and emphasis on spoken language in the Rocket languages online courses. However, I was disappointed in Rocket Spanish because it is totally geared towards younger travellers going to South America, whereas I am an older person spending a few weeks in Spain. There was very little clear advice as to differences in pronunciation, grammar or vocabulary for the language as spoken in Spain - just occasional references. There were no systematic examples of polite conversation with an older person such as a hostess or landlady. I spent a lot of time trying to work out the polite forms of the questions and answers for the ones included in the lessons but had no way of checking whether my attempts were correct. There was no list of days of the week or months of the year which I got from a dictionary but it would have been good to have them included in more of the conversations - they're pretty basic.
I love that you are able to speak through lessons. It feels like you have a great friend to practice with, except they are always there for practice!
Only wish is that the voice recorder would have a stop button because it doesn't seem to stop recording if fans are playing in the background or other white noise.
I purchased Rocket Korean in August of 2016, yet I have just now begun exploring just how many things it can do! I absolutely love it and get online everyday. I have a 2 hour minimum study goal per day, and with Rocket Languages, it is SO easy to accomplish that! The two hours fly right by!
One thing I don't like is how in the Interactive Audio Lessons, there are TONS of extremely long phrases I've already found just in Module 1. I haven't even bothered studying them because it's 1) irrelevant to me and my study goals, and 2) it's simply too hard for a beginner to learn without knowing the bits and pieces that make up the phrases. In other words, I'd like either the long sentences to go away, be able to select which vocabulary I want to study, or the teacher to break it down to every word in the sentence.
All in all, my Rocket Languages experience has been awesome. As a 15 year old, it's hard to find language learning material I can afford and also be extremely useful and worth the money. And now I know by the amount of Korean knowledge I already have is that Rocket Languages definitely meets my strict criteria as a teenage language learner!
It was quite helpful for a beginner like me! It was quite annoying when I said something and it marked it as incorrect but if I said the same thing after a few tries then I would end up with a hundred percent. But it really did help me with understanding and sentence structure. I would recommend this site to anyone who would like to learn a brand new language such as Korean.
I am fairly new to learning French having tried a couple of other on-line French courses which mainly focused on the written aspect with some audio. Rocket French certainly got me moving along with the correct pronunciation and the speaking. The lessons were comprehensive in their explanation and I felt as though I learned something new with every lesson. The trail experience has been very positive. As we are about to start traveling (sadly not France this time) I will have to delay purchasing as this stage.
Amazing, but the understanding my speech could do some work. Sometimes I'll say it the same and get a low grade, but after multiple attempts after I'll get the 100%. And short words aren't understood at all by the computer at times.
So far so good! I'm learning phrases fairly quickly. It would be helpful to have a walkthrough on basic letter sounds before starting to dive into phrases and grammar, though. I still can't figure out the r sound and feel like I'm having issues with each lesson as a result.
