Great so far but, too soon to really give a review. learning a few words here and there but no repetition or context make it so it's only vocabulary lessons.

Response from Rocket Languages

We're glad to hear that you are enjoying the course so far. You can repeat the vocabulary in the lessons with the Reinforcement Activities which you can find at the bottom of each lesson. All the best for your Japanese!

Some of the settings and order are fine and I am learning relatively quickly. The problem is there are some errors with the sound files or miss spellings that are frustrating and some of the longer phrases earlier on are added to vocabulary but they are never broken down or explained so it is very hard to learn them.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Adam, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing some difficulties with the course. We have sent you an email to follow up with you on this.

Non va bene avere istruzioni in inglese invece d' italiano. Anche, questo è un sito per imparare bene l'italiano e si usa una persona, Charlie, che non ha per niente una pronuncia buona in italiano. Ridicolo!

A good learning tool.
I'm not happy with the audio it's not working 100%. On average each lesson has 5% faulty audio.
I have complained but the advice is not working, because the fault is in the app it's selves.
The only thing I can do is ignore the gaps and hope.....

Response from Rocket Languages

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing these issues. We have emailed you requesting more information so that we can try and help you.

You aren't hearing me on about 30% of the words. Maybe it would be better with a headset - I am just using a laptop with the built in mic. But I've tried many times with my mouth in many different positions and different proximities to the mic - it should be able to hear me just fine.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Ryan, we are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the voice recognition. We have sent you an email to get more information about this.

1. You could give more practice with the words, before passing to the flashcards.
2. More activities can be introduced, such as putting in the missing words in the sentences, and others like those. Currently, the major way of learning is merely the typical drills. It is too much technical, which is good if it is something additional, but without the greater variety of the exercised it is too inhuman, and somewhat boring. I am also comparing it with the Babbel, and they have some adaptions to the humans, when the dialog is going on, and one has to add the missing words. So, more human like activities would be useful.
Cannot say anything about the customer service, because did not use it yet.

Overall, I think the Rocket French folks have developed a pretty good system to learn French, so I won't go into detail about the things that I like. The big downside, however, is how their system tracks how far you've progressed in each module. For example, I just finished module 3.9, and the icons have changed from no color to the following colors and comments:

FLASHCARDS = ORANGE (GOOD)
HEAR-IT = ORANGE (GOOD)
WRITE-IT = ORANGE (GOOD)
KNOW-IT = ORANGE (GOOD)
QUIZ = GREEN (EASY)

That is not sufficient. What I want (and need) to know is how often I have reviewed each module and how I have done each time. So I have created an offline spreadsheet that shows the following for each section that I have studied. For example here is how I have tracked section 3.4 that I have reviewed several times and self-graded:

11/8/22 = D, 11/9/22 = C, 11/20/22 = C, 11/23/22 = B

You can see that first studied this module on 11/8/22, and then reviewed is subsequently three times, and my self-grade has improved from the initial D to a B. And, instead of a self-grade, I would much prefer to see the percentage of answers I got right.

Hi Dan, thank you for your review and for this feature request. We have passed this request on to the Development team for their consideration. We hope you continue to enjoy learning with Rocket French!

I am just starting Rocket Japanese and so far I quite like it, with one exception so far. I decided to approach learning Japanese methodically and to try to master each concept before moving on. The problem is that in Module 1, there is a section on numbers, and it teaches numbers from 1 to 100,000,000. Obviously, there are patterns and generalizations one can make across the 10s, 100s, 1000s, etc, but there is a lot to learn here in one large gulp and now I have lost my momentum with the language learning. I feel the numbers should be introduced in smaller chunks so that one can progress with new vocabulary and grammar at the same time. I have been bogged down with number learning for days.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Laura, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you've lost momentum. Learning a new language is a huge undertaking, especially a language with a completely different writing system like Japanese. The Level 1 course is aligned with the JLPT, meaning we are teaching the number basics including 百 and 万 in this level. We've kept the lesson light, with less than 50 phrases in the testing section. The numbers lessons for Levels 2 and 3 deal with more advanced concepts like counters. We've emailed you with some helpful tips for learning a new language which we hope will help you get the most out of your course. All the best!
