This program is awesome as it allows you to adjust to different learning styles and discover which is best for you! Right now I am living in China and this program is very accurate compared to the real thing. I bought this program because of its many styles of teaching but also because of its accountability!
I'm moving to China next year and had no knowledge of chinese, didn't know where to start, so Rocket Chinese was very useful for me a start to my learning path. Learning the language takes everyday practice and this site allows to do just that. I was plesantly surprised with level of exercises, I didn't think an online course would give me a chance to pratice spelling and writing.
Even if you want to take live lessons, I highly recommend to start with Rocket Chinese and use live lessons as supplementary materials later, once you've grasped the basics. Will save you lots of time and money! I highly recommend Rocket Chinese (and other Rocket Languages, I've also tried Rocket Spanish) for all you beginner learners like me.
So far I'm loving it! It teaches me the culture as well as the why behind what I am saying. It is an easy course to understand and get through, and I am well on my way to fluency! Thanks so much :)
In the first time i was afraid to not get the Chinese tunes , but with this awesome Rocket Chinese I've learned a lot.. and am thinking to have the whole course here when i get free =)
to all who are making for us these lesson , zaijian!! :)
I like the variety of teaching methods. The character writing portion is great.
Rocket Chinese is definitely good value for money because the course appears to continue until you finish it at your own pace. You can take a break and come back to it no matter the timescale and for this reason, it gets a 5/5. I thought the pricing was perhaps a little expensive but still worth it because many other Chinese apps lose out on subscriptions because after a year you don't get any more time and sometimes it can take a while to get into learning Chinese. One can be enthusiastic to begin with and then realise they are not quite ready to learn it within a year's limited period and money wasted. This happened to me with Rocket Chinese, when I subscribed, after half a year, I was not really ready and lost interest and was worried I might lose my money. Well now I'm ready to learn and very enthusiastic and it took me years before it started to make sense and I'm now ready to absorb the teaching. I would definitely recommend Rocket Chinese for the reasons I stated. Other Chinese apps like Chairman Bao etc are excellent but are just way too expensive for just a year's subscription and make it not worth purchasing no matter how good it is.
Really impressed with the software. Am still daunted at trying to learn very basic mandarin, but it's a question of "how do eat and elephant: a bit at a time" and Rocket will provide the tools to do that.
I am currently living in China and can immediately apply the newly learnt material. The best thing about this course is the ability to speak and have it rated afterwards. I feel my pronunciation has already improved and I feel more confident to speak or ask questions. I hope in the near future, I am able to follow and have a full conversation in Mandarin. The only thing I regret is not having found this course earlier!
Easy to learn and pick up. Navigation and explanations and simple and good to understand, which is great. I like the point system too and how the process of how far you have gotten.
Too bad my friends have no interest in other languages, otherwise I would spam this site to them and recommend it non stop to them :) 10/10
This reviews Rocket Languages' Chinese Premium and Premium Plus. The program is well organized in its audio and website. Audio lessons use a typical conversation to teach new words and basic grammar lessons. Lin Ping, the teacher for the course, has a good clear Northern Chinese accent and speaks the majority of the time. It is peculiar that she converses with Dave, an Austrailian with a good accent, but not one I'd try to imitate if I was trying to blend in while visiting. This is fixed in the Premium Plus section. There is some English to introduce the subject and context, but the majority of the lesson is repeating words while you can follow a written transcript in Pinyin and I think Simplified characters. Then you practice memorizing by repeating sections of the conversation, hearing and identifying words, and speaking the words in Chinese knowing their equivalent in English. (hard!) The only major complaint is a lack of a translation dictionary to double check if the words you are adding to your vocabulary have the right definition (the audio tapes breeze through definitions only once); when looking up a word you will most often find it used in other lessons/sentences.
