Rocket Languages review criteria
I had reviewed several programs before deciding to settle on Rocket Japanese for several reasons. I liked that you could teach yourself orally without having to read or write (though those options are included for those who are learning or sharpening their abilities), that progress was synced across devices and not limited to desktop or mobile only, and that there were multiple learning tools provided. I am not far into the program yet but so far I am really enjoying it and it has helped me immensely. I would absolutely recommend to friends, family, and strangers looking to learn.
It's boring. There is no picture to help me connect with the phrase or words. They throw a sentence at you and have you repeat it, hoping you remember. It's no different from when you just Google Translate phrases and remember them yourself. Maybe throw an interactive game or something. I wanted a refund, but there's no refund button either. I guess I'll just take this as my loss.
Response from Rocket Languages
Sorry to hear that, Chalampol. Please know we take our 60-day refund promise very seriously, and our support team has reached out to you to initiate the refund process. Wishing you all the best with your language learning!
I am a very satisfied customer. The pacing is very good. The pronunciation of words are very clear. I am delighted that I have signed-up for this program. I will definitely purchase again and also recommend to friends and family. This will be a great help to my grandson who is taking basic Spanish language in 7th grade.
I like Rocket Languages Courses because they are different from other courses that we have to be connected to practice or learn, we can download the lessons and practice any time in our day life. The exercises are useful and we can review them anytime we want to.
I hate the points and streaks function and you have provide no ability to switch off!
I am preferring the Pimsleur system far more.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi G - Ha! That's because no-one has asked for it to be switched off before. We can add it to a list of suggestions to look at in the future.
It's really great website. I am learning Japanese then Korean, SUPERB !!!1
The audio tracks are pretty decent. I take on the road with me all the time. When I get the chance to sit in front of my computer, I log on and find the course material pretty easy to finish. I personally like the culture sections. Even with all the things I look up about my country I'm studying, they seem to be about something new to me. I have been studying Japanese for five years now and I see myself on Rocket Languages for a few more years.
The teaching medium is very interactive. Commendable!!

Thanks, Birhanu! We appreciate your being a part of our community of German-language learners.
For my very first lesson, I found it to be too easy since I have prior training in recognizing the Japanese alphabet and Kanji. However, for most people who have no knowledge of Hiragana and Kanji, it would be quite difficult. I understand that the lesson is conversation-focus but an introduction to the alphabets would be necessary for beginners.

Thank you for the review, Li-ping! It's great to hear that you've already acquired some Japanese language skills. I suggest navigating to Rocket Japanese Level 2 via the panel on the left side of your dashboard. There, you'll find a few lessons available in the free trial that might be more suitable for your ability level. All the best!
My opinion may change over time, as I will complete this series (I paid for it.) But right now, I am not sure I like this method, generally speaking. I prefer methodical, professional books such as Genki/Adventures in Japanese/etc which actually explain what is going on. For example: Japanese conjugation is a little tricky and this course (so far) is not helping. I also have a tutor in Tokyo, and nothing is better than that. Lastly, the Kanji exercises at the end are super frustrating as when the sentences are long, the stupid thing auto-places the words and I cannot get them in the right order even when I know it. That said, it's always good to listen to native speakers, but in today's world, there are no shortages of resources in that department.
Response from Rocket Languages
Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you haven't been finding our teaching style helpful. We have tested some of the longer phrases in the Write It exercise, but haven't been able to replicate the issue you've been experiencing, I'm sorry. If you have any specific feedback, please don't hesitate to send it through to our Customer Support team [email protected]. All the best!
